



Ahmed Farouk Ghoneim is a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University and a research fellow at the Economic Research Forum. He also fulfills the role of a consultant for several international organizations, including the World Bank, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Arab League.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany and a Master’s degree in Development Economics from the Institute of Social Studies in Netherlands. His expertise lies in trade policy, regional trade integration, the multilateral trading system, the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the economics of intellectual property. He has numerous internationally published research papers in political economy and trade policy.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ghoneim has held several executive positions. He served as an advisor to Egypt’s Ministers of Trade and Industry on foreign trade and international agreements. From 2014 to 2018, he was Egypt’s Cultural Counselor and Head of the Educational Mission in Germany, Austria, and ten other countries. From August 2020 to October 2024, he was the CEO of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC).
Currently, he is the CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). He was also a board member of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank in 2021, representing Egypt’s National Investment Bank. Presently, he is a board member of NMEC, GEM, the Supreme Council of Antiquities, the Tourism and Antiquities Support Fund, the Tourism Promotion Authority, Edita Food Industries, and Delta Insurance. He is also an advisor to the Minister of trade and investment for foreign trade issues.
