Current position and responsibilities
Tarek has been with Mastercard for more than 14 years across
various roles that span account management, business
development, marketing, and product management.
Tarek is currently responsible for the development of payment acceptance solutions for
Emerging Markets across the world. This includes solutions that leverage mobile
technologies, such as QR payments, payment technology solutions for Mobile Network
Operators and addressing entire country ecosystems where digital forms of payments
have not reached their potential scale. Tarek is leading a growing team of payment
technology professionals that are operating across different continents to address
emerging market needs around the world.
Prior to this, Tarek was the Regional Marketing Vice President responsible for B2B,
Product & Partnership Marketing, Sponsorships and Consumer Marketing Platforms. In
that role he set the regional B2B and product marketing strategy, engaged with regional
strategic partners for co-marketing strategies, developed the “Priceless” platforms
rollout strategy and led the regional Sponsorship strategy and execution as part of the
Integrated Marketing and Comms Middle East & Africa regional leadership team.
Prior to his current role has held multiple positions in business development, relationship
management and marketing covering multiple geographies such as Northern Africa, The
Levant, Sub-Saharan Africa and the wider MEA region.
Before joining Mastercard, Tarek spent 7 years at Citibank, where he was a key member
of Citi’s Credit Cards business with landmark achievements in Product Development,
portfolio and acquisition management, business development, partnerships, and was the
co-brand champion having successfully negotiated and managed partnership with over
50 leading brands. He headed marketing, communication, PR, and partnerships for the
entire Citi Egypt franchise. Prior to Citi, Tarek held business development positions in a
number of industries including e-commerce / internet start-ups, and construction.
Education Profile:
Tarek has a Bachelor degree in Architecture, and a Master of Business Administration
from Imperial College London – UK with a focus on Entrepreneurship, Innovation and
Customer Focused Marketing. He is native Arabic speaker and is fluent in English and
French
